UNIQUE ARC-PERCUSSIVE SYSTEMS ENABLE FAST, STRONG, CONSISTENT
BUTT WELDS THAT, IN MANY CASES, CANNOT BE ACCOMPLISHED
WITH OTHER WELDING METHODS. |
 |
ARC-PERCUSSIVE WELDING
Arc-Percussive technology is a method by which similar and dissimilar
metals are easily and consistently joined. Used in various industries
for applications such as lead attachment, cable termination,
and small parts welding, MTI's Arc-Percussive welding systems
offer a fast, safe, and flexible method for joining a wide array
of materials.
Since there are no consumables, electrodes, solder, or flux,
the Arc-Percussive welding process is easier to use and more
cost effective than resistance welding, soldering, brazing, or
crimping.

The Arc-Percussive technique has been refined and automated
by MTI's engineers. Our current product line includes manual,
semi-automated, and fully automated turnkey systems. We
can even design and build custom tooling to meet your specific
requirements.
MTI's facilities in Denver, Colorado include a fully equipped
laboratory to complete sample welds of potential Arc-Percussive
applications. If you have a metal joining application that
has been a problem or a new project that may benefit from
Arc-Percussive technology, please contact
MTI and our knowledgeable staff will assist
you.

THE PROCESS
Arc-Percussive welding uses a simplified and
controlled process so operators can achieve high integrity
welds with minimal training.
- The two materials to be welded are positioned with a preset
air gap between them
- A burst of RF energy ionizes the air gap.
- Capacitor banks discharge, creating an arc that heats the
two materials to a weldable temperature.
- When the materials reach the proper welding state, electromagnetic
actuators accelerate them together. The molten masses combine,
metal to metal, and are forged together. As the weld cools,
a complete alloy bond is formed.
ARC-PERCUSSIVE WELDING SYSTEM
Convenient front panel switches and controls allow
operators to select accurate actuator velocity, timing, voltage,
capacitance, polarity, and pulse to effectively weld a wide range
of materials. Many combinations of similar and dissimilar materials
of varying diameters can be welded, including difficult to weld
materials such as Nitinol, Aluminum, Tungsten, Titanium, and
Copper. Stranded and solid wires can be joined to other wires,
terminals, contacts, plates, chassis, etc.
